The Glasgow Show 08

This year's event took place at Glasgow Green on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July.

Introduction

The Glasgow Show is one of the biggest events in the city's calendar, with tens of thousands of visitors enjoying a huge range of performances.

Event Summary

The sun made a rare, but very welcome appearance as the crowds gathered in their thousands for the 2008 Glasgow Show. This year a record number of people made their way to the Show  over the course of the weekend.  With a huge variety of entertaining acts, displays and activities there really was something for everyone.

As the sun shone down on the Main Arena, a glittering line-up of acts kept the crowds entertained throughout the day. Audiences were treated to performances from the Flying Gunners, who reformed daring multi-car jumps and treated the crowds to some of the worlds fastest cross over’s. Europe number one trick horse riding team, The Company of Horsemen provided the equine stunts and The 20 strong Kangaroo Gymnastic Team entertained with comedic displays of gymnastic skill.  The Golden Lion Parachute Team also “dropped in” on proceedings… from 10,000 ft.

Highland Cattle  The Drifters

In the Extreme Arena Bulldog Lings Motorcycle Display Team made a welcome return to the Glasgow Show, dazzling onlookers with their high-octane blend of sky-high vaults and jumps, and demonstrating nerves of steel throughout all their adrenalin-fuelled performances.  Whilst Swampthing crushed everything in it path!

All musical tastes were catered for with a variety of acts performing at the Music Arena. Motown legends 'The Drifters' wowed the crowds with renditions of classic numbers Under the Boardwalk, Saturday Night at the Movies and Up On the Roof. Britain’s Got Talent Star Andrew Muir thrilled the crowds with his exceptional signing voice and even took the time to give autographs and pose for pictures.  In fact, Andrew enjoyed his time at he show so much he left with a little souvenir!  Clyde 1 DJ’s Adrian Cole, Gavin Pearson and Romeo were also on stage throughout the weekend to keep the crowds entertained.

The horticultural element of the Glasgow Show remained strongly represented in 2008 as the Floral Zone hosted the Scottish National Sweet Pea, Rose and Carnation Society’s annual Flower Show.

On Sunday evening, once the crowds the Glasgow Show 2008 closed its gates on what was the biggest, best and probably the sunniest Show yet.
