GRAND - Getting Real about Alcohol N Drugs
Community Responses to Alcohol & Drugs

Glasgow City Addictions Planning & Implementation Group (GCAPIG)

The main planning groups for addictions within Glasgow City is the GCAPIG, which links directly to the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Alcohol and Drug Action Teams.  This is informed by the work of a number of Sub-groups, including: Training and Employment; Children and Young people; City Centre Alcohol Action Group; and the Communities Sub-group.

Communities Sub-group

A main aim of this Sub-group is to work towards strengthening the link between the Alcohol and Drug Action Teams, GCAPIG and Glasgow's drug and alcohol forums.

The Communities Sub-group is supporting and co-ordinating Glasgow's second GRAND Week (Getting Real about Alcohol 'N' Drugs), taking place in September 2008.

The Ripple Effect: Alcohol and Communities Survey

Community researchers were recruited through the various alcohol and drug fora across the city to carry out the survey.  The research sought to examine through direct community consultation, whether citizens of Glasgow City felt alcohol affected their community, and if so, to identify and examine these effects.  Like the ripple effect created by a pebble in a pond the 'ripple effect' of alcohol was found to go far beyond the individual and their immediate family.
