Culture and Sport Glasgow manages, grant-aids and supports 71 community facilities across the city and is responsible for the letting of schools, public halls and the Mitchell Theatre.
Community Facilities are a valuable resource within any community and CLS is committed to the development of a network of facilities which will be a long-term asset to the whole community.
These facilities are at the hub of social life, catering for weddings, christenings, dance parties and other family and community events.
They also provide space for sport and leisure activities such as indoor bowling, exercise classes and youth clubs. Some facilities offer educational, cultural and lifelong learning opportunities, including: learning to use computers, photography classes, language tuition, art classes and drama groups.
A number of the centres and halls offer drop-in cafes and organise lunch clubs for the elderly and housebound. Adult Care services, Credit Union services and Money Advice are also offered in some Facilities.
Community Facilities offer a high quality service which meets local needs and expectations and reflects the wide range of activities delivered by CLS and other Council Services.
The Holiday Programme
The Holiday Programme attracts thousands of young people to take part in Arts, Sports and Play Activities. CLS Holiday Programmes run during the Easter, Summer and October holidays and are based in a number of community facilities across the city.
Touring Events
Community Facilities are often used as venues for touring stage and comedy productions including the Comedy Festival.
Sport
CLS offer city-wide sports development and activity programmes through the Sports and Recreation Team, including aerobic classes, 50+ activities and football coaching.
