Children and Young People

This service focuses on the effects of domestic abuse on children and their support needs.

In May 2004 a Gender Based Violence Resource Officer was appointed by Glasgow's Children's Services Planning structures to:

  • map service provision for children and young people affected by domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based violence.
  • review and collate information on the needs of this group and
  • help inform strategic planning and service prioritisation within the City of Glasgow.

The worker has conducted a review of the research literature on the effects of domestic abuse on children and their support needs, as told by children themselves.  This was followed by a comprehensive mapping exercise which looks at how Glasgow's statutory and voluntary services are currently responding to children and young people affected by gendered violence and abuse.  The study highlights gaps and issues in prevention, protection and provision of support to children and young people and identifies priorities for service development.  The final report will be used to draw up and agree and Action Plan between all the relevant agencies for implementing change.  This will be launched in early Summer 2006.
