Corporate Violence Against Women

 

The Corporate Violence Against Women Section is located in Community Services.  The unit takes the lead role inthe Council policy work and practice development in relation to Violence Against Women.

What does our work involve?

 

  • Implementing a number of programmes of activity to address domestic abuse, prostitution, trafficking and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation
  • Convening a number of interagency groups to improve practice, better coordinate activity and develop new service provision where required
  • Developing good practice guidance
  • Coordinating a Council wide response to relevant research, consultations and policy developments by the Scottish Government, Home Office and other bodies in order to influence policy at a local and national level
  • Commissioning research on related subjects where required
  • Organising, promoting and supporting events to celebrate International Women's Day, 16 Days of Action to eliminate violence against women, Pride, World AIDS Day and International Day of Disabled People
  • Ongoing production and dissemination of Glasgow's Equality Bulletin in partnership with GCVS
  • Raising awareness of violence against women and the impact on women, families and communities through publications, seminars and the media. 

We administer and support the following projects:

 

ASSIST

 

ASSIST is a support and advocacy service linked to the pilot domestic abuse court.  It provides support to people who have been affected by domestic abuse and ensures they and their children are safe, informed and supported before, during and after their case comes to court.  ASSIST is a multi-agency initiative funded by the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council and the Glasgow Community safety Partnership.

Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership Support Unit

 

The Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership is a multi-agency partnership working towards ending male violence against women and children.  It is a strategic partnership which is part of a national strategy led by the Scottish Government to address male violence against women and children.  The GVAWP works at both city-wide and local community levels to bring about improvements in the way services for survivors of male violence are planned and delivered.

Response

 

Response is an innovative new programme developed by the Glasgow Homelessness Partnership providing a flexible out of hours response to anyone experiencing domestic abuse that is at risk of homelessness.  This unique service is operated on an outreach basis, with temporary furnished flats available for immediate access.
