There are more than 400 public space cameras in the city, covering the city centre and residential areas across Glasgow.
With capactiy for over 500 TV screens to monitor images from the cameras, the Blochairn centre is one of the largest of its kind in Britain and Europe.
The operation is 24-hours a day, 365 days a year monitoring the streets of Glasgow, shopping areas, schools, parks and the banks of the River Clyde and Forth and Clyde Canal.
The centre is fully supported by Strathclyde Police, with direct links to the Police Force Control Centre and has four resident police liaison officers on site.
Police officers also use the Blochairn centre to monitor and manage major events across the city, such as football matches, from a dedicated 'Events Monitoring Module'.
Public Space CCTV is pivotal in supporting the Council and its partners in delivering the Scottish Executive's Anitsocial Behaviour Act through helping to reduce crime and fear of crime and tackling wider community issues e.g. vandalism, grafitti and fly-posting, abandoned cars, fire-raising and fly-tipping.
