Economic and Social Initiatives
Glasgow has developed a wide range of programmes designed to address economic and social inclusion. Within the Council Development and Regeneration Services is responsible for managing a wide range of programmes, including:
- the Social Inclusion Budget (SIB), which funds over 150 organisations or projects which addressing key priorities such as of the anti-poverty programme, families and young people, community care, community safety/community health, Equalities, and lifelong learning/training.
- support for a wide range of voluntary bodies which provide information, advice and services to the many communities which make up the city
- support for the labour market access and training programmes operated by a number of social economy organisations in the city
- support for the development of the community credit union movement
- support to develop the social economy
- support for the many community based economic development initiatives which operate across the city, and particularly the network of local Development Companies (LDC’s)
- the provision of information on social inclusion issues in Glasgow
