Council Tax

Council Tax is a local charge on all domestic properties. The Tax is levied by Glasgow City Council to help fund local services such as schools, libraries and refuse collection.

Glasgow City Council is also required by law to collect water and waste water charges on behalf of Scottish Water and these charges are included in your Council Tax bill.

The amount of Council Tax that you will pay is dependent upon the value of your property and the consequent Council Tax Band into which the property has been placed. The band can be found on-line by visiting the Assessors' Web Portal.

We accept payments of Council Tax by a number of methods.

To register a change of address or update tenancy details please use our Change of Address Form. There are certain circumstances where exemptions, discounts and reductions may be available.

Important
With effect from 1st April 2008 the Council Tax instalment due date changed from the 28th of the month to the 1st of the month. This change was agreed by the Council's Executive Committee on the 5th October 2007.

This change allows the Council Tax office to accelerate the follow-up process for those who are not paying and will allow 3 months at the end of the financial year to recover any unpaid Council Tax.

Please note that if you are already paying your Council Tax by Direct Debit then your payment date will not change.
