Disabled Person’s Reduction is a reduction in the Valuation Banding of a property due to a person with disabilties living in the house.
The person with disabilities can be anyone in the house, adult or child.
The disability must be substantial and permanent.
One of the following features must be present to meet the specific needs of the disabled person:
- an additional bathroom
- an additional kitchen
- use of a wheelchair inside the house
- a room mainly used by the disabled person
The amount of the reduction is the difference between the actual Valuation Band and the Band below it. The reduction cannot be awarded on the lowest Band (Band A) for the period 1 April 1993 to 31 March 2000.
However, from 1 April 2000 Band A properties will qualify for a reduction which is calculated at 5/9ths of the Band D charge.
