Home Safety
In Glasgow every year, approximately 3,000 people are admitted to hospital as a direct result of an accident in the home.
When accidents happen behind closed doors, they rarely attract public and media attention. Glasgow City Council is working to raise the profile of this issue and it uses a broad range of resources to inform and educate to help prevent accidents in the home and garden.
Glasgow City Council employs a Home Safety Officer and two Home Safety Advisers who will:
The Council has taken steps to address the issue of reducing accidents and injuries within the home by:

establishing the Home Safety Working Group – a multi-agency group with members from several City Council Services, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, Strathclyde Police, the Greater Glasgow NHS Board and others to co-ordinate safety messages and activities across the city;

establishing a Home Safety Response Team to provide safety and/or security equipment to vulnerable persons referred by partner agencies;

creating the ITS Glasgow project (Integration through Safety) to progress home and fire safety issues for asylum seekers and refugees;

holding seminars to raise awareness of specific issues eg.:

reduction of Accidents/Injuries within the Home

safety in the Home for the Older Person
