Buying sheltered and retirement housing
If you already own your home and would like to move into sheltered or retirement housing, you may want to consider the option of buying a property within a private development.
There are a number of private sheltered and retirement housing developments in Glasgow which can be bought either direct from the developer or on the second hand housing market.
Details of new developments can be found on the Elderly Accommodation Council website . (Please note this is not part of Glasgow City Council).
Second-hand properties can be found in the same way as any other second hand properties and the GSPC website allows you to specify 'retirement home' as a search option.
Most private sheltered or retirement schemes are run by a management company which might be a housing association and the level of supervision of the property will be vary between developments, depending on the management company being used. There is a fee for this management service, so it is important to take this into account when budgeting for the move.
