Paying for Accommodation

Paying for temporary accommodation

Housing Benefit may cover some of the costs of temporary accommodation. The amount of Housing Benefit you receive will depend on your personal circumstances, savings and income. Glasgow City Council will make every effort to ensure the accommodation found for you is affordable.

Costs which are not covered by Housing Benefit include charges for:

  • meals
  • heating
  • lighting
  • hot water.

For 2006/7, the cost of breakfast for a week is £2.50 and heating, lighting and hot water cost £6.45. You will need to pay for these items out of your own money (for example, from Income Support or other benefits you receive).

Up to date information about the cost of these items can be found in the Job Centre Plus publication Social Security Benefit Rates.
