There are about 27,000 privately rented properties in Glasgow. The sector accounts for around one in ten homes in Glasgow.

There are large numbers of private rented flats in Hyndland and Jordanhill and areas close to the universities. These are generally rented by students.

In other areas, privately rented properties tend to be occupied by young professionals or by families.

Prices and quality of accommodation vary across the city. The properties rented by students are generally vacated in early summer, which can lead to seasonal fluctuations in the availability of properties in these areas.
