Rents Deposits and Charges

Rents

Rents vary significantly across Glasgow. For further information about market rent levels, go to the rents page.

Housing Benefit entitlement in the privately rented sector

Many people living in privately rented accommodation are entitled to help with their rent. As from 7th April 2008, Housing Benefit for people renting from a private landlord is in the form of a Local Housing Allowance. This is similar to traditional housing benefit, but is based on the tenant and their circumstances, rather than the property. Tenants under 25 years old are subject to slightly different rules. To find out more go to the Housing Benefit and Local Housing Allowance entitlement page.

Deposits and fees

You will normally be required to pay a deposit and often your first months rent in advance. For advice about what deposits and fees you can expect to pay, go to the deposits page.

Other charges

For information about charges that landlords and agencies are not allowed to make, go to the other charges page.

Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme

Glasgow City Council supports a scheme which helps homeless people, or people who are about to become homeless, and who are unable to afford a deposit to access housing in the privately rented sector. For more information about this scheme, go to the Rent Deposit Guarantee Scheme page.
