Central heating grants
There are three sources of grants for central heating systems:
- Scottish Goverment funding for new central heating systems for people aged 60 and over, or improved central heating for people aged 80 and over (see below)
- Glasgow City Council's private sector grants cover the installation of central heating systems (see the private sector grants page for further details). However this is given a low priority and the excessive demand on funding available for private sector grants means that grant funding is rarely provided through this source.
- Strathclyde and Central Energy Efficiency Advice Centres run a small fixed grant and interest free loan scheme for central heating on behalf of Glasgow City Council. These provide a fixed grant of £500 and an interest free loan. Phone 0141 552 0799.
Scottish Goverment's central heating programme:
The Scottish Government's Central Heating Programme From the 22nd of May 2008, the Central Heating Programme will give priority to those pensioners who:
- Do not have a central heating system
- Have a central heating system that is broken down and the applicant or partner is aged 80 years of age or over
- Have a central heating system that is broken down and the applicant or partner is in receipt of the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
The programme provides the following package of measures:
- A central heating system and advice on how to use it
- loft, cold tank and pipe insulation; cavity wall insulation; and draft proofing
- A carbon monoxide detector (except where heating system is electric),
- a mains-linked smoke detector and a cold alarm
- Advice on best use of energy in the home
An optional check of entitlement to state benefit
