SHR Inspection of Glasgow Homelessness Services

The Scottish Housing Regulator published its inspection report on Glasgow Homelessness Service's in July 2009.

The Council has developed an Improvement Plan to take forward the actions required to overtake the recommendations within the report. The Council will work with its partners to make the improvements required by the Scottish Housing Regulator.

Glasgow City Council has produced a leaflet to explain how its Homelessness Service is provided, how it can be accessed and how it works. This is a brief guide and if you would like more information about our services please contact any of our offices listed at the back of the Homeless or about to be leaflet.

2009

It is the intention of Glasgow City Council to publish details of the Section 11 notices received on a quarterly basis.  These are detailed below:

  • The Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland (CIH) in conjunction with the Scottish Government has launched a new web based publication 'Information and guide for landlords on dealing with the aftermath of a sudden death in the home'. It is aimed at anyone who works with tenants to help them to manage these sensitive situations. The guide contains information, case studies and practice examples and provides many links to further websites and documents.

This is the first time CIH has used this type of interactive e-publishing and would appreciate feedback on both this and the content. Feedback can be left at then end of the document or by contacting Scotland.policy@cih.org

  • Two new mortgage help schemes launched to help home owners struggling to keep up with mortgage payments have begun.

A new Mortgage to Shared Equity scheme involves the Scottish Government taking a financial stake in the home of an owner who is in danger of being made homeless. A new, improved Mortgage to Rent scheme helps people facing repossession to stay in their home as tenants of a social landlord.

The £35m Home Owners' Support Fund will fund both schemes over the next two years. Housing Minister, Alex Neil urged home owners in financial difficulty to seek independent advice as soon as possible.
