City Representatives

 

Managed by Glasgow Community & Safety Services, the City Reps Project is designed to help unemployed people get back into full-time work.

Of those who have been with the project, 70% are successful in gaining other employment

Where can you find a City Rep?

  • George Square
  • Buchanan Street
  • Argyle Street
  • Sauchiehall Street
  • Byres Road and the Merchant City from April to September
City Centre Reps

What services do the City Reps offer?  

  • To Local People and Visitors
    • provide information on Glasgow’s facilities and attractions
    • liaise with Glasgow Tourist Information service
    • reunite groups which have become separated and can assist lost children in finding their parents
    • trained in first aid and can call emergency services if required
    • provide sailing information to passengers at Pride O’ Clyde
    • give directions to shops, restuarants, banks etc in city centre

  • To City Centre Businesses
    • act as a link with local authority services
    • ensure the area surrounding your business is free from rubbish
    • monitor adjacent empty business units to prevent flyposting or vandalism
    • put you in touch with other organisations
    • keep you informed of any changes likely to impact on business

Environmental Squad Reps removing posters 

  • Environmental Squad Reps - The Environmental Squad have a primarily cleaning and tidying role which involves:
    • cleaning and maintaining tourist signage, litter bins, parking meters and CCTV poles across the City Centre and West End
    • removing flyposting from derelict or unoccupied buildings and street fixtures
    • wash streeet furniture in city centre 
    • general housekeeping role in public areas

What City Reps will not do

  • take the place of, or act as police officers or parking attendants
  • take the place of, or act as statutory services department personnel
  • disclose to anyone outside the City Reps initiative any personal or commercial information gained from City Centre users whilst on duty as City Reps
     

Creating Jobs and Training 

  • the City Reps Project is designed to help unemployed people get back into full-time work
  • each Representative is trained in:
    • Customer Services
    • Tourist Information
    • First Aid, Administration
    • Communications
    • Health & Safety Legislation
  • they also get help with personal development and time to look for future employment  
  • training is accredited to SVQ Level 2 or equivalent and the jobs are temporary for up to one year

 

If you are interested in becoming a City Rep you must be unemployed and meet the under noted criteria:

  • You should reside within the Glasgow City Boundary
  • Age 25 years + : You should have been unemployed for 6 months or more
