University Course Review

Louise gives us an account of her 1st year studies at Strathclyde University.

I am a 2nd year student in the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences at Strathclyde University. In my first year, I undertook 2 principle subjects – Journalism and Creative Writing and English Literature, alongside 2 elective subjects – Law and Psychology. Having a keen interest in Journalism and reporting, the course has opened up many opportunities for me. In my creative writing course, for example, I have been tutored by and worked with novelist Louise Welsh. In 2nd year, I am studying Journalism/Creative Writing and English Literature as a joint honours degree, as this offers access into a wide range of careers including journalism, lecturing, teaching, writing and many other language based careers. I’d recommend the first year Law, Arts and Social Sciences course to any young person who has an interest in subjects such as English, History, Politics, Law and Sociology as you are able to take these classes at a first year level, but are not committed to continue with them if you haven’t enjoyed them.
