1.) In the film, Wild Child, you play a spoiled daughter who is sent to a strict all-girls English boarding school by her father. Many young Hollywood stars these days find themselves getting into all sorts of bother. How do you avoid these pressures?
Emma: Not everyone in LA is like Poppy and doing bad stuff – even although a lot of people think that, it’s probably only a minority of folk who are but because they are celebrities then they are in the papers whenever they do step out of line.
Alex: That’s probably true, it’s like anything. I mean most people go about their lives without any trouble and don’t receive any attention for doing that but it’s when folk do something stupid then you maybe notice them more.
Emma: Especially if they are celebrities because a celebrity misbehaving is always going to sell papers
2.) So you were/weren’t a bit of a ‘wild child’ yourself off screen?
Emma: No, not at all. I’m definitely not a wild child.
3.) There have been quite a few Scottish actors making it in Hollywood over the last few years such as James McAvoy and Ewan McGregor, what advice would you have for any young actors/actresses hoping to make it in Hollywood?.
Emma: To keep working hard and remain committed and dedicated to what you are doing.
Alex: Yeah, I’d say that is true and also not to get downheartened by any rejections from auditions as just about every actor will have had plenty of these in their time. If you really want something bad enough you can do it.
4.) In Wild Child the matron and the hairdresser have somewhat ‘unique’ Scottish accents, following Mel Gibson in Braveheart and Mike Myers as the fat character in Austin Powers I need to ask, who do Hollywood film makers base their Scottish accents on?
Alex: Probably Billy Connolly he is Scottish and everyone knows him – so probably they think everyone in Scotland sounds like him.
5.) What would you say to sell the film to anyone who may be considering going to see the film but are maybe not sure it’s for them?
Emma: It’s maybe more of a girly movie but it is a real fun movie and I think most people would say it is an easy to watch movie. It’s got a bit of everything with some drama and comedy.
6.) What has been your most embarrassing moment?
Emma: When we were filming one of the scenes for Wild Child where we were meant to be sleeping in our room and I actually fell asleep for real. It was pretty embarrassing when I woke up and everyone was laughing. It had been a long day though. (Laughs)
Alex: For me it was when we were filming in Yorkshire and a bus full of girls on a school trip appeared and started screaming and shouting over to me. It was pretty bad and we had to shoot the scene about 3 times so that got me into a bit of trouble and was quite embarrassing.
7.) I’m sure there a number of lot young guys out there envious of the role you had in the film in working with a predominantly female cast. Was it a dream role for you?
Alex: I hadn’t done any filming for around a year but the girls were all great to work with and we had a lot of fun shooting the movie.
8.) Alex, you’ve modeled for global brands such as GAP, Ralph Lauren and Burberry in addition to starring in films such as Stormbreaker and now Wild child and appear to be quite level headed. What helps you keep your feet on the ground?
Alex: Nothing, I’m really big headed (laughs). No, seriously my stepdad is really good and would never let me get too big for my boots. Plus my friends are really good too and would soon bring me back down if they thought I was getting too much of a big head.
9.) What do you like to do in your spare time?
Emma: I usually just chill out and hang around with friends…….. and sleep. I sleep a lot.
Alex: I’m pretty much the same, just chill and hang out with friends.
10.) Alex, you are still living in England at present, do you have any aspirations to move to Hollywood full time?
Alex: Yeah, I’m moving over full time in October so I’m quite excited about that. Although if you see me and I’m starting to come across all LA luvvie type then you have my full permission to come over and slap me out of it (Laughs).
11.) You’ve been in Scotland for 12 hours now, have you tried a Mars Bar supper yet?
Alex: We have them in England too now but they are called Marsipan’s down there. I tried one in Gleneagles before and it was horrible.
Emma: What are you guys talking about? What is a Mars Bar supper?
Alex: You know like fish and chips…….
Emma: Of course I know what fish and chips are…..
Alex: Well, you dip a mars bar in batter the same way and then deep fry it in a pan.
Emma: (Looking horrified!) That’s gross, no really that sounds disgusting. It is a disgusting idea. I think that is my worst nightmare having to eat that.
Alex: Like I said, It’s horrible.
Tony: I’m not a fan of it myself, I find haggis is much better.
Emma: Haggis?
Alex: It’s Sheeps intestine, sounds horrible.
Tony: It’s nice, it is like a spicy mince. I only tried it myself about 7/8 years ago and found that I actually liked the stuff. Just look past what it is.
Emma: I’ll just take your word for it. I would throw up.
Alex: I like Irn Bru though we get that in England and my brother drinks it all the time.
