Interested in becoming an actor? Want to follow in James McAvoy or David Tennant's footsteps? Then the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama is for you!
Drama Works at the RSAMD would like to offer a 10% discount on our brand new "preview weekends 2008" to all readers of The Grid who hold a Glasgow Young Scot. This offer is valid for any or all of the following projects:
The Stagecraft Project
Be the best actor you can be... a great opportunity to learn stage-craft and gain confidence on stages of all sizes.
Working on a variety of texts and in a range of theatrical styles, from Shakespeare to pantomime, we will explore acting techniques and try out new skills in RSAMD's performance spaces - including the New Athenaeum Theatre, the Chandler Studio Theatre and the Guinness Room.
The five two-hour workshops will take place each week from 23 August to 20 September. They are led by Liz Carruthers, a respected Scottish director and associate of the Drama and Dance Works audition preparation course. The course is designed for young people in S3 and above.
The Castings Project
Want to know what a casting director is looking for?
We are regularly approached by professionals in the TV and film industry looking for young people to perform in feature films, television dramas, adverts and theatre events.
This project will allow you to understand just what you need to do to be ready for that call; unravelling the mystery of audition and interview technique, CVs, biographies, showreels, headshots and the like.
This intensive weekend will take place on 27/28 September 2008 and is designed for young people aged 11 and up.
The Audition Preparation Project
For the first time our popular and successful audition preparation course is available to the young people within Drama Works. The aim of the short course is to build confidence and gain understanding of the process of auditioning.
You will explore voice, movement, singing, acting and improvising technique as well as develop a small portfolio of audition pieces suited to your strengths as a performer.
The course will take place during the half-term holiday weekend, 14 and 15 February 2009. The course is designed for young people of secondary school age.
The Acting Masterclasses
This intensive weekend over the May bank holiday 2009 will allow you the opportunity to really focus on developing your ability in acting.
The course will be lead by RSAMD staff who specialise in this area, with input too from under-graduate students on the BA Acting course.
Over the short project you will work through a range of exercises examining acting approaches and techniques, improvisation and text analysis, before forming small groups to rehearse and perform selected scenes.
The course is suitable for young people aged 14 plus. 23 and 24 May 2009.
