Healthy eating in school

Over the last few months you will probably have noticed a lot of changes to school dinners in your school. This is beacuse of new report called 'Hungry for Success'.

 

What is Hungry for Success?

Hungry for Success is a report written by the Scottish Executive. The Scottish Executive is made up of different groups of people whose job it is to manage the way Scotland works. They deal with things like deciding how much money to give to schools and how to run them.

The report showed that young people in Scotland need to change the type of food they are eating to become healthier.

 

 

Why is it important to be healthy?

Healthy means that someone is fit and well.

To be healthy you need to eat a lots of different types of food and take regular exercise.

 

What is "eat well to live well"?

“Eat well to live well” is the name of the action plan which is trying to make young people in Glasgow healthier. There are lots of projects running in your school which are part of the “eat well to live well” plan. These are:
 
Fruit Plus- where you are given a piece of fresh fruit everyday day in school.


Refresh- which lets you have freshly chilled water all day from the coolers in your school.


Glasgow’s Big Breakfast- if you come along before the start of school you will get a free, tasty breakfast.


Fuel Zone- is where you can buy a range of delicious and healthy food at lunch time.


Pick-n-Mix- is available when you have a school lunch. As well as your main meal you can have as many healthy snacks (like fruit, vegetables, soup, milk, bread and yoghurts) as you wish.

 

 

If you are healthy you will look and feel good. You will also have lots of energy meaning you will perform better in class and at sports.
