Glasgow City Council is committed to improving the health and well being of Glasgow's children - such as funding free swimming for all under 18s in Glasgow.
Primary school children can access free swimming, library services and commercial discounts by applying for a Kidz Card. The Glasgow Young Scot Card offers an enhanced range of discounts and services for all secondary school children. Both cards require parental permission for under 12s.
You can apply for a Kidz Card for your child as long as they live in or go to school in Glasgow.
Why issue a card?
These 'smart cards' allow us to monitor how often children are using services and so we can get some idea of how well the scheme is working. You can find out more about how we use and store information by reading page 8 of the application form (link below).
The card gives children:
-
Free swimming during Leisure Swimming Sessions (under 8s must be accompanied by an adult when in the pool)
-
10% off all other pay-as-you-go activities at Glasgow Sports and Leisure Centres
-
Membership of the City's extensive library network (the barcode on the card enables your child to register for Library Services at any of the city's 33 Lending Libraries)
-
Access to competitions, special offers and discounts from retailers and leisure providers around Glasgow
How to apply for a card on behalf of your child

You can obtain an application form from your local library, leisure centre or school office. Alternatively you can download and print out the Kidz Card application form (PDF File 440kb, 8 pages). You will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to access this form. This software can be freely downloaded from the Adobe Website.
Complete and sign the form for your child's card. The completed application must be stamped to verify the personal information given (see the application form for full details). Send the completed application form to:

It takes up to two weeks to process an application (approximately).
We would recommend that for younger children (and especially those under 8 who need parental supervision for swimming), the card should be kept by parents. It is up to parents to decide whether 8-11 year olds should have access to their card. Remember, this card is valuable and will open many doors for your child - please encourage them to take care of it.
If the card is lost, replacement cards are available by completing the standard application form, specifying 'Replacement Application'.
