Commonwealth Games 2014
In the summer of 2014, Glasgow will play host to over 6,000 of the world’s best athletes from 71 countries for 11 days of sporting competitions across 17 different sports. Hundreds of thousands of people will visit the city as spectators and to participate in associated cultural events. Millions will watch on television.
The Commonwealth Games plans include:
• Steps to help create Games related employment and business opportunities for local people and companies - it is expected that this will include 1,000 new jobs
• Building a mix of private and social housing
• Recruitment and training of 15,000 volunteers to help run the events
• Detailed consideration of security arrangements
• Guarantees for fair hotel accommodation prices
• Efficient new transport systems
• Cultural events to accompany the games
• Cultural and education programmes involving young people in Scotland over the next 6 years and making links to Commonwealth Countries
Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - Have Your Say! Feedback Events
During October 2008 to January 2009 over 2,000 people contributed to a consultation on the 2014 Commonwealth Games via the Glasgow Household Survey, by filling in questionnaires and taking part in interactive discussion workshops. This information has been used to carry out a Health Impact Assessment. This considers the potential positive and negative effects that the Games might have and makes recommendations for how we can make the most of this opportunity for Glasgow and its people.
You are invited to be amongst the first to hear the early findings and recommendations of this process. Events, supported by Glasgow Community Planning Ltd, will be held across the city as follows:
South West Glasgow - Monday 23rd March, 09.30am – 1.00pm (lunch provided at 12.30pm, post-event networking until after 2pm) Ibrox Suite, Ibrox Stadium, G51 2XD

South East Glasgow - Tuesday 24th March, 5.30 – 8.00pm (buffet and refreshments 5.30 – 5.50pm) The Millennium Suite, Hampden Park, G42 9BA
East Glasgow - Wednesday 25th March, 1.30 - 4.30pm (refreshments provided 1.30pm – 2.00pm) John Wheatley College, East End Campus, 2 Haghill Road, G31 3SR
West Glasgow - Friday 27th March, 1.00 -4.00pm (lunch provided 1.00 – 1.30pm) Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena, 1445 Argyle Street, G3 8AW
The programme will include information on the consultation process and an opportunity to discuss the findings and recommendations. There will also be a presentation on Glasgow’s plans for creating a lasting legacy from the Games.
