Council

 

Following the Local Government election in May 2007, Glasgow City Council comprises 79 elected Members, representing 21 multi-member wards of 3 or 4 members. The current political make-up of the Council is 46 Labour, 22 Scottish National Party, 5 Liberal Democrats, 5 Scottish Green Party and 1 Conservative.

 

Following a review of its decision-making arrangements, the Council, in March 2006, approved a new decision-making structure, which is now based on an Executive Committee and 5 Policy Development and Scrutiny Committees.

 

The Council has also retained regulatory type committees such as Licensing and Planning plus a small number of other committees.

Details of committee remits are set out in the Terms of Reference.  The Scheme of Delegated Functions describes the functions of the Council that have been delegated to officers (the staff of the Council, as opposed to its Elected Members) to carry out.
