Byelaws
There are two byelaws in force within the City of Glasgow:
Byelaws on drinking in public places
City of Glasgow Byelaws Prohibiting Consumption of Alcoholic Liquor in Designated Place (PDF 629kb)
These byelaws came into force in August 1996 and were created under sections 210-203 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973.
It is an offence to consume alcoholic liquor in public places, except between the hours of 6pm on 31 December to 6am on 1 January.

Glasgow City Council intends to apply for confirmation from the Scottish Ministers of an amendment to these Byelaws to include an offence where any person in a public place is found to be in possession of an open container containing alcoholic liquor.

Any objections to the proposed amendment may be made in writing to Scottish Executive, Criminal Law Division, Justice Department, GW15, St Andrew’s House, Edinburgh, EH1 3DG no later than 12 January 2007.
Byelaws on the employment of children
Glasgow City Council Byelaws on the Employment of Children 1998 (PDF 486kb)
These byelaws came into force in June 1999 and were created under section 28(2) and 30(2) of the Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act 1937.
Any child under the age of 16 years requires a permit from Glasgow City Council to work part-time or during school holidays. Guidance to employers and children along with the application form can be obtained by contacting:
