Since first being elected to Glasgow City Council in May 1999 I have continued to listen to, assist and act on behalf of individuals and community groups requiring support.
The ward of Carmunnock covers a large and diverse area including part of Cathkin Braes, the village of Carmunnock, Netherton Braes, Linn Park, three parts of Castlemilk (Downcraig, Netherton/Holmbyre & Raithburn/Drakemire), Simshill and right down to the old Snuff Mill Bridge in Old Cathcart.
I make myself available at surgeries throughout the ward five times a month. I also ensure that if people simply wish to 'phone, write or email that they also get a prompt response. I am also willing to arrange home visits for elderly or infirm constituents.
I have been active on the City Council committees and working groups which are listed and I also represent the City Council on a number external bodies. I am pleased to chair the South East Area Committee and I am presently the council's spokesperson on Information Communication Technology.
I have also attended many meetings of a wide variety of community groups including; Carmunnock Community Council, Simshill & Old Cathcart Community Council, Castlemilk Community Forum, various School Boards and Parent Teachers Associations, Castlemilk Neighbourhood Housing Forum, residents groups and Housing Associations such as Castlemilk Tenants Housing Association, Linndale and Netherholm residents groups, Pre-5 & After School care groups, the Friends of the Victoria, COJAC and Fair Deal for 1 in 100.
When I am not active on Glasgow City Council business my job is as an Information Officer for a Social Work Department in a neighbouring local authority, I am a member of the Amicus trade union. I have at various times sold shoes, played guitar, studied computing, worked in bars, been a computer trainer, worked supporting community projects, been an election agent, etc. etc.
In my spare time(?) I enjoy listening to and playing music, reading (mainly contemporary novels and biographies) and socialising.
