The European Union defines Nuremberg as a ‘Gateway’ region. Due to its geographical position, Nuremberg is ideally placed to take advantage of new business markets in Eastern Europe. It is also one of Germany’s top 10 economic regions and the economic and commercial centre of Northern Bavaria. The city has a population of 492,000.

The Nuremberg economy consists mainly of small and medium sized companies, as well as major branches of industry such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and the metal, communications, printing and food industries.
