Citizens' Panel

Glasgow City Council has operated a Citizens’ Panel since spring 1999. During this time, the Panel has been used to investigate a range of diverse areas including service satisfaction, contact with and opinion on the role of councillors, neighbourhood satisfaction levels, and key priorities for the city. The Panel has informed service delivery, Best Value Service reviews and strategic planning reviews. In short, effective consultations with citizens has become a key requirement for the Council over the range of its services. The use of a Citizens’ Panel is one means by which this is achieved.

Where appropriate, follow-up work on specific issues highlighted by the Panel’s responses is carried out through focus groups. The information gathered from the Panels is reported in the Glasgow Magazine, which allows participants and the public, as a whole, the opportunity to see the results of their consultation.
