Every Autumn, Glasgow City Council, a multi-billion pound organisation, begins considering its budget for the next financial year; this process ends the following February when it decides on the Council Tax level to be set.

Glasgow City Council is committed to engaging citizens and business as part of the Budget considerations for 2006/7.  As part of that commitment, the Council Leader, Stephen Purcell, City Treasurer, Ruth Simpson, and Director of Finance, Lynn Brown, took part in a live Budget consultation Web chat with Glasgow’s citizens on Thursday 27 October 2005 between 6pm-8pm.

The session was publicised through posters in Council venues (eg libraries, sports centres, museums, schools and the City Chambers) and in press articles and adverts on Radio Clyde 1 and 2.

The two-hour discussion covered a wide range of topics including the impact of the proposed equal pay settlements on the Council’s budget, possible cut backs in Council services, allotments, the pre-12 school review, support to autistic children and adults and parking/transport issues.
