Budget and Service Plan (2008/09)
The Council's financial approach requires all services to combine their annual budget proposals with their annual service plan to produce an annual Budget and Service Plan. The Plan sets out the proposed service changes and financial efficiencies for 2008/09 in line with the Council’s approved budget.
This includes
- An overview of the Service with details of responsibilities, budgets and staffing
- The opportunities and challenges currently facing Land and Environmental Services
- An assessment of performance over recent years with details of specific performance indicators
- Details of the service changes for 2008/09. These cover individual proposals for income generation, efficiency savings, budget pressures and service investment.

Statutory Performance Indicators (SPIs)
Audit Scotland annually collects performance information across a wide range of services from all Scottish local authorities. The appropriate Statutory Performance Indicators relating to Land and Environmental Services are for Roads and Lighting, Protective Services and Waste Management.
Measures for Improved Performance (MIPs)
The Council regularly monitors performance from all Services against a range of Measures for Improved Performance. Land and Environmental Services MIP Reports have continued to evolve since the first report in April 2001 and are produced approximately quarterly. They monitor performance in road safety, play areas, cycling, traffic growth, road condition, bridge strengtheningm recycling, street cleanliness, air quality and the M74 completion project.
Road Safety
Statistics on road accidents and casualties in Glasgow are collected by Strathclyde Police and analysed by Land and Environmental Services. The Road Casualty Statistics provide details on the types of accidents and the categories of casualties and shows progress in reducing casualties against government targets.
Committee Reports
Progress on a wide range of projects, services and other issues is reported to committees of the Council. Reports from Land and Environmental Services are available in the minutes of the Land and Environment PDS Committee.
We also report our performance on specific activities such as the Clean Glasgow campaign. Our part in Clean Glasgow continues to be the delittering of streets and open spaces, the enforcement of legislation relating to dog fouling, littering and fly tipping, and the education in the community through school visits and promotional campaigns.
