Policy, Planning & Strategy

The Council  operates its service delivery programme against a defined set of policies and strategies.  As well as conforming to legislative aspects, the Council maintains an awareness and an input into the broader aspects of policy making in public services and community development - often working in partnership with Government, other public bodies, and the private sector.

The Chief Executive, as principal policy advisor to the Council, has overall responsibility for translating Council policies into strategies and action plans for service delivery.

The Corporate Policy Unit supports the Chief Executive and the Council's Management Team in this role, and has the lead responsibility for a number of key policy areas.

Service departments also have  specific responsibilities for leading policy and strategy development within their own areas.

Information is provided on the general aspects of policy and strategy development at both Corporate and Service level.
