Racial equality
Since 1998 Glasgow City Council has adopted a proactive approach to dealing with racial discrimination and harassment. In that year the Council launched the Anti-Racism Policy Statement outlining its vision of Glasgow as a city that encourages racial diversity, promotes racial equality and challenges institutional racism. At the same time the Council published its first anti-racism action plan.
Since then the Council has engaged in systematic work to monitor the use of services by black and ethnic minority people. For example, it has introduced initiatives to encourage more black and ethnic minority job applicants. It has also put in place procedures for dealing with racial harassment by members of the public.
