Home Care

General home care service provided by Direct and Care Services on behalf of Social Work Services

This service is provided in partnership with Social Work Services and is delivered to 8,000 clients by 2,500 home carers. The service principally provides housework, shopping, bathing, dressing and meal preparation for individuals who rely on the service to maintain an independent lifestyle within the community (usually these are older people.) This service is generally carried out during working hours, however, provision is in place to provide service outwith these hours and in cases overnight care can also be provided.

Home care services are provided to clients who have been assessed by Social Work Services and who meet a specified criteria to receive a care service in their home.

In addition, a home from hospital service and a comprehensive home care service is available with a twenty-four hour emergency cover provided by Direct and Care Services rapid response team.

Our staff can be seen daily throughout the city as they deliver important care to our clients in their distinctive green uniforms and green coupe cars.

Qualifying for home care services

Home care services are offered to individuals who are experiencing functional difficulties and are living in a situation of social disadvantage, the combined effect of which is of such severity that it puts their safety at immediate or imminent risk, with a high probability of requiring admission to care if home support is not provided.
