Direct and Care Services currently provide a janitorial service to over 300 primary, SEN and nursery schools throughout Glasgow.  Janitors supply daily support and assistance in the maintenance and upkeep of schools. They are a crucial part of the school team helping ensure that pupils are taught in a warm, safe environment. The key aim is to provide a non-intrusive service managing areas such as security of school buildings, playground supervision, access and exit management and receipt of deliveries to the school. 

A janitor's hours of duty during term time are from 0700hrs to 1700hrs  but they also provide a service out with these hours to other building users e.g. out of school care groups, lets etc. Janitors are also the first port of call for any emergencies when the building is closed including responding to police and alarm company calls as first key holders. A number of ongoing initiatives such as the management of CCTV have been introduced into this important service.
