About us

What We Do
George Black, the Chief Executive, is ultimately accountable for providing the Council's extensive range of Services. He leads the Management Team of nine service directors who are operationally responsible for their Services and for ensuring they reach the people of Glasgow.
Chief Executive Department
The Chief Executive Department functions as the Council’s engine room, dealing with such vital issues as: Legal and Administration (including Licensing, District Courts and Registrar services); Corporate Policy, the Council's Web site, the Access Call Centre; Corporate Human Resources (including HR Services, HR Strategy, Health & Safety and Organisational Development); and PR and Marketing (including Media, Marketing and Communications).
It also supports and assists the Council's 79 Elected Members, including the officer of the Provost and the Leader.
An important role is the promotion of forward planning and strategic development, including major projects bringing the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Glasgow.
The Department also manages the Council's response to civil emergencies - such as the explosion in Maryhill.
