The following notes are intended to help you when applying for a vacancy.
Policy on Recruitment
The Council has a policy on Recruitment and Selection that promotes equal opportunities and best practice.
To apply for a vacancy
This gives access to an application form, equal opportunities monitoring form (which must be completed for each individual vacancy), notes for guidance on completion and all other relevant recruitment forms. To apply for a vacancy, contact the number at the bottom of the advert, or click on the Apply for a Vacancy button on the main menu page or at the bottom of each advert.
To obtain a job description
To view the job description, click on Get the job description at the bottom of each advert.
Application forms
Complete our Application Form from one of the options available in the job application page. The Application Form is best completed in text format as it allows full editing, storage and printing from most Word Processors.

To return application and equal opportunities form
Completed forms must be returned to the appropriate address on or before the closing date. Applications can be returned by post, e-mail attachment or fax, details of which can be found at the bottom of the Apply for a Vacancy screen. Applicants returning forms by e-mail, will be required to sign their form at interview stage.
Eligibility to Apply for a Vacancy
Under the terms of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, Section 8, Prevention of Illegal Working, Glasgow City Council has a legal obligation to ensure that any successful applicant is legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom.
If you are successful in obtaining a post within the Council you will be required to provide certain documentation:
- birth certificate issued in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland
- P45
- pay slip from a previous employer
- P60 or a NINO (National Insurance Number) card
Glasgow City Council welcomes applications from Groups which are under-represented within the Council.
Applications can be submitted in Braille, audio tape, disc, Chinese, Urdu, Punjabi etc. Further details are available from contact numbers detailed at the end of each vacancy.
Disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a post are guaranteed an interview.
