Information about Children and Families Teams
Children and Families

The Children and Families Teams were re-organised into specialisms in March 2001. The sub teams are Early Intervention Team, Family Support Team and Support to Young People Team (which also encompasses the Community Support Team).

The Early Intervention Team work with the majority of child protection cases and those situations which need immediate social work input. This team aims to be involved with a family for a maximum of three months. Staff will assess need and identify resources, and then refer on to the Family Support Team or Support to Young People Team for longer term support. Early Intervention also deals with the majority of requests for reports from the Scottish Children Reporter’s Administration.

The nature of work carried out by the Early Intervention Team offers opportunities for staff development in joint working with Police and other agencies. Training in Child Protection will be made available for new staff.

The Family Support Team works with children aged birth to twelve years and aims to keep children with their families. Where this is not possible, permanency planning work is undertaken in a bid to give a young person a positive outcome which may include a substitute family.

The Support to Young People Team attempts to maintain young people at home and where this is not possible would try to maintain them in a residential placement, working towards a return to the community via the Leaving Care Service for looked after and accommodated young people.

Children and Families work in Glasgow is exciting and challenging and needs committed Social Workers to ensure we offer the best service to children and their families
