Conditions of Service
Salary
The current salary scale for Qualified Social Workers is £29,692 - £34,823 (including non core payments). Starting point and placing on scale subject to assessment of experience, qualifications and evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
The salary scale for Practice Team Leaders is £36,405 - £42,173 (including non core payments). Placing is based on qualifications, competence and evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Hours of Work
Our standard working hours are 35 hours per week. Our office opening hours are Monday – Thursday, 8.45 am – 4.45 pm and Friday, 8.45 am to 3.55 pm. The standard contract is based on flexible working within 8 am – 8 pm Monday to Friday with work arrangements by mutual agreement between the employee and manager. For more specific work requirements a Worklife Balance and Flexible Working Hours Policy is in operation.
Annual Leave
We take into account previous service with a wide range of employers when annual leave days are allocated. Previous service includes broken periods and is accumulated to give a total amount of reckonable service.
Less than five years reckonable service – 20 days.
With five years reckonable service at start date or on gaining while in service – 25 days.
Public Holidays
12.5 days per year
Other Leave
We offer a range of leave that can be requested, which can be paid or unpaid. These include Adoption, Fostering, Parental, Maternity Support and Time Off to Care for Dependants.
Sickness Allowance
We offer a generous provision of paid leave during periods of sickness up to a maximum of six months at full pay and six months at half pay. Entitlement is based upon continuous and reckonable service.
Pension Fund
The local government pension scheme run by Strathclyde Pension Fund, is one of the largest local authority pension funds. Highlights of benefits of the scheme are a guaranteed pension based on your final pay and tax-free lump sum when you retire.

Checks are carried out at the enhanced level.
Registration Requirements
From 1 September 2005, a number of posts will require postholders to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
Interview Expenses
Reasonable expenses incurred in attending interviews will be reimbursed
Resettlement Allowance
We have an attractive Resettlement Allowance Scheme which pays up to a maximum of £8,000. Claims can be made for removal expenses, legal fees, lodging allowance and incidental expenses.
Travel and Subsistence Allowances
Expenses incurred while on Council business will be reimbursed. This includes travel by public transport, car and motor cycle and meal allowances. We also have a bicycle allowance.
Employee Forums
As part of our commitment to equal opportunities, we have established a number of employee forums. They provide an effective communication and consultation mechanism with employees, providing advice and support on employment related issues and health issues. There are three forums for: Black and Ethnic Employees, Disabled Employees and Gay and Lesbian Employees.
Glasgow Council Credit Union
Employees of the Council are eligible to join, financially the largest Credit Union in the UK, Glasgow Council Credit Union. The Credit Union provides members with the easiest way to save money - directly from their wages, with all savings earning a competitive dividend (4% in 2005). Members can also apply for loans between £100 and £100,000 at great rates of interest. The Credit Union also offers a host of other services including mortgages, insurance services, a private members lottery, family and junior member accounts and on-line account access.

Assisted Car Purchase
Where an employee is required or would normally be required to use their own vehicle as part of their duties, they may be eligible to apply for a loan towards the purchase of a car.
Personal Accident Insurance
The Council provides a Group Personal Accident Policy to cover accidental injury to employees at work
Staff Magazine
Issued monthly, it contains full details of vacancies within the Council and provides information about the Council and offers to employees on a wide variety of issues.
