Information for Applicants
Glasgow City Council Social Work Services is keen to recruit qualified staff in a range of settings including, area-based services and hospital settings. This will include Practice Team Leaders, Social Workers, Care Managers and Occupational Therapists.
Working in Social Work Services will be a challenging and rewarding career move with an attractive conditions of service package. We have a commitment to staff development and training through our staff supervision arrangements and new procedures which are in operation. We aim to have a Personal Action and Development (P.A.D.) Plan which would formalise the process to discuss on a regular basis individual staff members development needs. This then informs the local training plan and Centre commitments are developed to ensure staff reach an agreed competency to equip them for the tasks undertaken in the post.
There is a structured induction for new staff and supportive working ensures that staff are able to develop their practice. All staff members are encouraged to participate in the development of the Local Area Planning process which sets targets and goals for the local area. Efforts are made to support new staff in weighting caseloads to give a breadth of experience. However this does have to be balanced with the needs of vulnerable clients and working in a structured form. There will be opportunities for involvement and participation in developmental areas, agreed within the Local Service Plan.
All staff are members of sub teams which will be led by Practice Team Leaders and are part of the overall area based structure.
We are committed to student placements and involvement with local universities delivering social work training will be encouraged. There is a commitment to both existing practice teachers and those members of staff who wish to become involved in practice teaching after two years. We believe students will benefit from local area based placements and encourage them to return seeking employment with the Council when they complete their training.
Operational Managers support area-based services for Children and Family/ Criminal Justice Services and Community Care/Community Development. The senior staff for the sub team specialisms are committed to the development of good quality services supported by staff who are motivated to achieve the common goals.
The Children and Family Services specialisms focus on Early Intervention, Family Support Team, Support to Young People Team and Community Support. We acknowledge the challenges in Children and Family work, but are committed to delivering quality services.
Criminal Justice Services are working to National Standards and setting standards that are realistic and achievable. We are recruiting Social Workers for these teams.
Community Care has specialisms for Older People’s Services, Adult Services including Mental Health, Physical Disability and Area Learning Disability Teams. We are developing our joint work with health colleagues and pioneering developments resulting from the Joint Futures Agenda. We are keen to recruit a range of qualified workers to join our teams.
Although there is a high degree of specialism within our area based services we are keen to offer opportunities to crossover the specialisms to retain staff and ensure staff development. You will find working with Glasgow City Council a rewarding opportunity….join our teams.
