As a matter of course the names of applicants recommended for appointment will be passed to Disclosure Scotland for details of any previous criminal convictions.

It is unlikely that a previous conviction would in itself disqualify an applicant unless it was a very recent one or if it were for one of the more serious criminal offences. The CPAC has to be satisfied that anyone recommended for appointment has not been convicted of an offence of a nature which might make him/her unsuitable as a panel member.
