Panel members are entitled to claim certain expenses. These include the cost of travelling and actual subsistence, when appropriate.
A claim may also be made for financial loss, including loss of wages, which normally relates to the period spent away from employment. Reasonable child care expenses can also be claimed. Shift workers, however, are entitled to an increased claim in respect of earnings lost over a longer period. Financial loss claimed must be actual loss, not potential loss. There are maximum amounts which may be claimed.
Panel members should be encouraged to claim expenses to which they are entitled but it is recognised that many panel members undertake a certain sacrifice in giving of their time to panel duties and this is never compensated in the expenses.
Every effort is made to settle expenses within a short period of the claim form being received. Claims for expenses must be submitted on a quarterly basis.
