Work Experience for Young People Programme - Diverse Groups

The Project is a work experience programme for young people under 28 years of age, living in Glasgow. The programme is designed to provide practical work experience to increase job opportunities for those who are under represented in the workforce. The scope of training undertaken varies enormously. It can range from handling tools to IT and civil engineering.

There are four strands to the programme:

Student Placements

20 students are employed for 10 weeks each year during the summer months to undertake a specific project identified by a host department. The criteria for this strand is that the student is in their penultimate year of study, from an ethnic minority background, or has a disability or lives in a social inclusion area of the city.

General Work Experience

A total of 240 weeks work experience is available. Trainees, aged 16–28 years involved in the programme come from groups within social inclusion areas, or have a disability or are from an ethnic minority background. The length of placement can vary from 1 week onwards. Trainees, depending on their individual benefits can chose to be paid.

Youth Placements

This is unpaid work experience for school pupils from the ethnic minority community or young people with disabilities. These placements vary in length dependent on individual needs.

School Leavers on Preparatory Training Programmes
