The Access Centre was established as a key part of our response to the Modernising Government initiative to give electronic access to City Council services by 2005. The aim of the multi-media contact centre is to use technology to maximise efficiency whilst providing the highest possible level of customer service.

The project commenced in 2001 and a phased approach to implementation was agreed to minimise risk to service provision.

A strong emphasis has been placed on customer focused call handling as all available information indicates that this is still the preferred method of contacting us.

In line with our approach to customer feedback, the Access Centre surveys its clients to assist in ensuring a high quality of contact. The most recent survey started to examine the service from call to completion of request by looking at the entire transaction for large items of refuse requiring a special collection.
