Access Glasgow
The citizen or client expects the Council to deliver high quality, responsive services at an affordable cost. Access Glasgow is the vision for using technology to respond to this demand. We want to change the face of public service in the City by offering an increased choice of place, time and method for receiving service.
The e-Government strategy "Creating a 21st Century City"
The work is monitored by senior officers through the e-Government Programme Board and by the ICT Working Group of elected members. Projects underway include the ICT Infrastructure Programme, the replacement of the Council’s HR and Finance Systems in the wide-ranging "1 Business" project, Revenues and Benefits Development, Land and Property, Access Centre, Web Site Development and the e-Care programme.
Council Tax Payments and Road and Lighting Faults (RALF) reports are amongst the transactions which can already be made on-line and take-up has been good despite the low level of Internet access in the City. The first phase of the Access Centre, focusing principally on phone contacts is improving the service for this method of contacting the Council which remains preferred by the majority of our citizens.
Other exciting projects recently completed include VIPonair, an Internet radio for the visually impaired, and the implementation of assistive technologies in Real learning centres in libraries.
