International Awards Recognition

Glasgow has received recognition in international awards schemes for using technology to deliver real impact on people's lives

Good News - in 2004 Glasgow, Scotland's largest city won a global award for excellence in applying technology to regeneration of the City.

On 11th June 2004 in New York City,  Glasgow was named Intelligent Community of the Year 2004.   Click the links below for the announcement of the award.  Read more about the exciting things which are happening in Glasgow in the original submission and the supplement from April last year.

Since receiving the award Glasgow City Council together with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and other partner organisations have established Glasgow's e-City Index scores.   The Index benchmarks the current position and acts as a starting point for the next stage of our development as an e-City.

On November 24th 2004, "Aspirational City of the Future - Digital Glasgow" was held at the Glasgow Science Centre.  The results from the e-City Index were announced and a series of workshops were held to explore our aspirations for the future and the actions required to deliver these.

Since then we have been working to develop our Access Glasgow e-City Action Plan.  Come back to these pages to find out more in the future.

Intelligent Community of the Year

The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) is a special interest group within the World Teleport Association that focuses on the uses of broadband technology for economic development by communities, large and small, in both the developed and developing world.

As a result of a joint submission by Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and the City Council in June 2003, Glasgow was named as one of the top 7 intelligent communities for broadband and technological advance. The ICF said that those who made up the list were "pioneers and role models for the development of vibrant digital age communities in the 21st Century".

Finalists are from as far apart as the US, Australia and Japan. The announcement of Glasgow as the winner took place at an awards ceremony in New York during the June 2004 Intelligent Communities Conference.
