Urban Model Wins Innovation Award

Digital City Banner

Glasgow City Council's Urban Model won the 2007 Merchant City Festival Award for Innovation Specialising in Interactive Media at the BAFTA Scotland Winners night held on 22nd September 2007.

The model launched on 11th May 07 and is the first of its kind in the UK.  It was developed in response to the Scottish Executive's vision for online services fit for the 21st Century.  The 2 year project, commissioned by the Council and led by the Digital Design Studio at the Glasgow School of Art, will allow the public to engage with the future design and development of the City.

The model is unique in terms of its size and accuracy and will allow planning applications in a 3D environment, allowing the public and business to preview building developments long before their development begins.  The model will also help to attract jobs and investment to the City.

The photo realistic model covers 20sqm along the Clyde and may be extended to map the whole City.
