EUROCITIES Knowledge Society Forum-TeleCities is a sub-group of the Eurocities network which aims to increase urban influence on EU policy.  Telecities consists of over 100 organisations from cities across Europe principally local authorities. The shared aim is to ensure that all citizens can equally gain from the benefits of the Information and Knowledge Society. 

Telecities and Deloitte undertook a survey of issues relevant to eCitizenship for All such as eDemocracy, eLearning and eSecurity. Participants in this survey were then invited to enter projects in the awards.   Glasgow's results were as follows:

  • The Sign Language Interpreting Service offers registration
    and on-line booking for over 900 Deaf people in Glasgow.
    The project was awarded 2nd place, an Honourable
    Mention in the Re-engineering of Local Public Administration Category.

  • IXSEED provides equality of access to information
    and services to people with learning disabilities
    through a web site and technology installed in
    resource centres. The project achieved 3rd equal as
    a nominated finalist in the e-Learning and Inclusion Category.

Bailie Alan Stewart, ICT spokesperson, received both awards on behalf of the Council.
