Access Glasgow Projects

Digital City Banner

Access Glasgow is already delivering improvements in services to the citizens of Glasgow.  Some examples are provided below:

Real is a Glasgow-wide initiative to improve access to ICT and increase the provision of learning opportunities across the city, offering Glasgow’s citizens the highest quality learning at all levels.

The Fuel Zone has radically transformed the delivery of school meals across the City of Glasgow, not only is it now producing real efficiencies but it is improving service delivery to young people as well as encouraging a healthier life style in line with the Council’s key objectives.

The Greater Glasgow Independent Living Equipment Service (GGILES) is responsible for providing, delivering and installing a range of disability equipment supplied by Health and Social Work services to elderly and disabled people living at home.  The service recently won a coveted Government Computing BT Award for Innovation on 27th April 2006.

The Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) now offers on-line booking of services to the Deaf, hearing impaired and
deafblind, a community who suffer severe difficulties
in everyday communications. The project has been recognised internationally by an Honourable Mention for the European Telecities network eCitizenship for All Awards 2003 – Re-engineering of Local Public Administration category.

More than 25,000 Glasgow Young Scot cards have
been issued to young people from 12-18 in the City.
The cards are multi-technology and can be used in Council Libraries, Leisure centres and to obtain a range of
commercial discounts.

Pupils attending all secondary schools in Glasgow
are able to use their Glasgow Young Scot Card
for school meals, removing the stigma of free school
meals and promoting healthy eating as part of the Fuel Zone concept.

For the 7-11 age group the Kidzcard offers similar benefits to over 43,000 children.

The Councils smartcards strategy aims to move to a single service smartcard over the next 3 years.  To do this they will build on the success of the existing service smartcards in circulation including the Glasgow Young Scot card

  • Urban Quest

Urban Quest is an interactive game for the 7-11 age group, which helps children to learn about safety while having fun, available on CD.
