The citizen or client expects the Council to deliver high quality, responsive services at an affordable cost. Access Glasgow is the vision for using technology to respond to this demand. We want to change the face of public service in the City by offering an increased choice of place, time and method for receiving service.
The e-Government strategy "Creating a 21st Century City" (1 Mb) highlights how the Access Glasgow vision will be realised through an ambitious and wide-ranging programme of citizen and customer-facing projects which support the day-to-day work of the Council.
Projects underway include the ICT Infrastructure Programme, the replacement of the Council’s HR and Finance Systems in the wide-ranging "1 Business" project, Revenues and Benefits Development, Land and Property, Access Centre, Web Site Development and the e-Care programme.
Council Tax Payments and Road and Lighting Faults (RALF) reports are amongst the transactions which can already be made on-line and take-up has been good despite the low level of Internet access in the City. The first phase of the Access Centre, is now complete and has improved service delivery via telephone which remains the preferred channel of communication with the Council by the majority of our citizens. Phase 2 is now underway and will see additional service departments utilising the centre as well as extending the type of media to include fax/email and mobile communication devices.
Other exciting projects recently completed include VIPonair, an Internet radio for the visually impaired, and the implementation of assistive technologies in Real learning centres in libraries.
