Information resources are a vital element of efficient and effective service delivery in the 21st Century City. A fit-for-purpose communications infrastructure must be able to deliver on a number of key demands
- Location of staff wherever service delivery is required
- Remote and mobile working
- Flexibility to redesign service to meet customer needs
- Timely access to information
- Consistent quality of information across the City
- Shared information across organisational boundaries
- Security of the information stored within the Council
- Increased complexity of information
Technologies have matured and cost structures have developed so that there is now a real opportunity to implement a communications model that provides a higher level of service both in terms of all-round quality and geographic coverage."
The Communications Strategy "Connecting a 21st Century City" (PDF format, 281Kb)outlines the approach adopted in improving Telecommunications across the Council.
The Council entered into a strategic partnership with Thus plc, a major communications supplier, in 2004 in order to ensure that the fundamental building block of an e-Government infrastructure is effectively delivered and properly managed.
